In this One to One with Elspeth, Andrew Mills passionately flies the flag for the often unseen, underestimated, often unpaid, carer. He cared for his wife Chrissie for 12 years up to her death, and is on the management team of Carers for Hertfordshire. Andrew itemises the different stresses that carers are under. For example, desperately needing a break from the job, and trying not to feel guilty for taking that “time out”. He faces the reality of the change of relationship between a carer and a member of their family. This occurs when dementia or physical changes happen. Andrew also has some amazing statistics about unpaid carers in this county. This is Andrew speaking from his heart!
