Elspeth talks to Marva Hall, marketing director of the St Albans Community Bank. It’s a surprise to learn that very few people, even in our more-affluent area, know very little of this amazing service. Loans from all the well known established banks, Marva tells me, may cost so much that many people cannot afford them. This is where the Community Bank is different and if enquirers can show that they can pay the money back, there are very good terms. Many of the staff are volunteers, so costs are kept down. You might have known it as the Credit Union with a shop front on the Hatfield Road. It has now moved its premises to Catherine Street and changed its name to the St Albans Community Bank.
