She also spoke about training communities 1st have coming up. They offer an exciting range of free training to volunteers and members of the public.
Communities 1st have a Dementia Friends Information Session on the April 27th 2pm-3pm online. Dementia Friends sessions give you the opportunity to learn more about what it is like to live with dementia and turn that understanding into action. They may help you volunteer in the community more effectively, as more than 900,000 people in the UK are living with dementia.
They are also running an Introduction to Mental Health First Aid on the May 5th 11am-1pm online. This session aims to allow you to feel more confident to identify and support individuals who may be experiencing mental health distress or difficulties. This course will share some basic practical skills you can use to help prevent mental distress developing into a more serious issue. It will also show you how you can promote the recovery of good mental health. It will help you provide comfort to a person experiencing mental distress and recognise the warning signs and respond effectively to minimise risk.

She also spoke about the handyperson service that Communities 1st runs. Their Handyperson can help with lots of small DIY jobs and repairs, such as:
- fitting shelves and towel rails
- floor laying
- fence painting
- fitting curtain rails, poles and curtains
- housekeeping / cleaning services
- gardening
- simple plumbing
- and lots more!
